2018
In 2018, HKVC launched a new initiative – The Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival (“HKICF”). This new initiative aims to be an engaging music education platform, where students and teachers can grow artistically through mutual exchange and appreciation.
Unlike conventional choral competition, HKICF is held in the form of masterclass where choirs can receive instant feedback and guidance from the adjudicators. They are also not ranked according to their performances, but instead, given different levels of awards based on their improvement.
HKICF is also complemented by other unique features, such as: workshops for music teachers and conductors as well as choir clinics that provide in-school tailor-made choral training.
In its 1st year, HKICF has already seen over 200 teachers attend our workshops. More than 1,000 primary and secondary school students from over 20 choirs participated in our competition cum masterclass.

Ms. Susanna Saw
Ms. Susanna Saw is a graduate of the Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music, Australia. She was the choir teacher for The Australian Boys Choir Institute from 1996-1998, obtaining her Australian Kodaly Certificate in Primary Level Music Education in 2001 and Secondary Level Music Education in January 2015. Since her return to Malaysia, she has founded The Young Kuala Lumpur Singers and The Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir. Currently, she is a lecturer and choir director at the Faculty of Music at the University of Malaya, University Teknologi MARA, and Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA). She also conducts the MIA Ladies Chorus, and is the founder of the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod and the Young Choral Academy in Kuala Lumpur.
Since 2007, Susanna has been invited by the Interkultur Foundation,
Germany, to be a member of the Jury for the Asian Choir Games and
World Choir Games (Indonesia 2007 & 2013, Austria 2008, Korea 2009, China 2010, Vietnam 2011, United States 2012, Latvia 2014, and Sochi, Russia 2016). She has been appointed Choir Olympic Council Member of the Foundation, and has presented workshops on Malaysian Choral Music and Choral Education in Vietnam, Austria, Croatia, Australia, Brunei, Macau and China. She has also been adjudicating at various international choir competitions in Bandung, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Bali, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Macau. Susanna has been appointed to the Working Committee for the Asia-Pacific Choral Council, under the auspices of the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM).
Ms. Cheuk Yee Wong
Ms. Cheuk Yee Wong received her master’s degree in Voice Pedagogy and Performance (with distinction) from Westminster Choir College (USA). She graduated earlier from Hong Kong Baptist University with a B.A. in Music, a B.A. in English Language and Literature, and an Education Diploma. She was the choir vocal coach for the Music Department at HKBU, and served as the instructor of music ministries at her church for three years. She has been teaching privately at her own voice studio Studiamo Canto since 2013, training, among others, music teachers, choir conductors, voice majors and other voice teachers.
A dedicated music educator, Ms. Wong frequently offers workshops and short courses on singing or music to college choirs and churches. She was also invited to teach singing courses by the Music Office of Hong Kong. Ms. Wong is one of the very first online voice education Chinese columnists for “Music Valley”. During her studies in the United States, Ms. Wong’s voice research on voice pedagogy was presented at Westminster as well as the Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference. She also won the Eastern Region NATS Student Auditions, while being the semi-finalists at the famous Mary Trueman Art Song Vocal Competition (ASPS of New York). She was also selected to sing in the Westminster Choir and to receive coaching from Dalton Baldwin, Thomas Muraco and J.J. Penna.
